First of all: I would like to say THANK YOU to all the people who did hard work to develop and build loads of rom tools!
Special Thanks for sharing those and "how to" knowledge!
:worship2: I share because they did!

The claim is simple - this should be a ROM for daily use.
Configurable to nearly everybody's needs - without crap - but with fixes and basic tools on board.
Compromise between speed and memory - IMHO just a good starting point...
(I tried to optimise for mem, speed, battery time.)

Enjoy and please report back - that will give sharing a sense and improve the rom ;-)

Btw: I`m using my x650 for
private and business.

Instructions and Tips:

How to flash: read instructions in downloaded info file :

Spoiler

Other Q/A:

What if Message "OS Image is NOT compatible with" appears:
All Eten Stock Roms are Region coded. If your device is for example wwe English, you can`t flash a ie. Russian one and vis versa.
To flash different roms there are two methods:
You can use a modified Flash Tool like EUUs.exe (Thats the patched one you will find in my downloaded folders)
Or you can patch "Magic byte" which disturbs Region Setting.
If you are on a Magic byte patched rom, every rom that you want to flash has to have MB patched then! (even original one)
Here you can read how to set Magic byte manually.
And here you can find a little Tool for doing that for you.
Just extract to the same folder as you have the temp.bin
file and double-click 'patch_magicbyte.cmd' and that will patch the magic-byte for you. If you are on Vista/7 you
need admin permissions so when it asks, just allow.
This Tool is now included in my download package. So please no more Questions ;-)
(Thanks to Jim_Beam and secc123)

Trouble with flashing your eten?:
Read and try Rugals tools : Rugals flasher
Thanks and credits to him!

Trouble after flashing - comming from ETEN Rom older than 030 410 (This might possible be a reason)
If your device has never been flashed to the latest ETEN (410) or to one of my "older" (before v23a) roms.
Please do so before upgrading to
> v23a Update to etens latest rom is also a good test for those "flashing"
procedure - if you are new.

The way back to original Rom:
If you have trouble with flashing back to any ETEN original rom, do this: Flashback
Still not working? Patch "Magic Byte".

What does "PagePool" (pp) Size mean?:

If you are interested, read this!
Keep in mind that even with WM6.5 we are still on CE5 ;-)

What is meant by "Virtual Memory"?:
This is the really interesting thing about memory. If you
want to learn more - you can here.
More? : there

To fix the D-Pad directivity bug (which exist in all x650 wm6.5 releases), do the following:

Update in v > 22:
you should install 1_,2_,3_ while first boot now. But please - just them three -
and dont hurry to much hitting install button. Give app installer a bit time for flickering around ;-)...

If you miss the recalibration (second boot), use d-pad to "surf" to align screen in -start -settings -sys folder.

or:
- flash Rom to your device

- run through setup process

- just hit "install" when Eten App Manager shows up (Install Nothing now!!)

- hit "ok" to reboot

- after os booted, goto: <wireless manager> and turn "all off"
- goto: <start> <Utilities> <Aplication Recovery>

- install in this order: "PREI_1_SDCERTS" then "_2_FISH_KEYBRD." then "_3_FISH_TOUCH."

- soft reset
- align screen again - setup personal - sync
- use

Optional more free RAM

This rom brings a lot of possibilitys to tune. In general its "lite" which means it is optimised for low ram usage.
Driving a VGA screen from 64MB does need such tuning ;-) I deleted everything we dont need to run our device properly (imho). Please feel free to tell if you know more! ;-)

If you still think you need more free ram (because you care about some numbers - or neeeed to run very hungry apps ;-) - you can use the stuff i added and gain up to 32MB free ram out of my roms. At the cost of an wm6.1 like looking system. But working with the speed, scrolling and mem management of wm6.5. Which is a step forward i think :-)

Things you can do (combine like you want):

->Start ->Settings -> Personal -> Today ->Items :
deactivate "Windows Default"

->Start ->Settings -> Personal -> Today ->Appearance :
choose Theme "FreeMem_Black"
From "App Recovery" :
Install "NueNobar"

Install
"jottes NoThread_sms"

Install "Quickmenu" instead of honeycomb as start menu (saves a lot of ram)

- backup system (if you think about going back ;-)
- goto: <start> <Utilities> <Aplication Recovery>
- choose "_z_Quickmenu"
- goto: <start><system>quickmenu
- configure QM to your wishes
- reboot sys via QM !!!

Good luck and have fun tweaking!

1. Seems to be ok, but the App Manager (the one with the icon on the top right of the screen - I don't know it's real name) is missing and I kind'a liked it. Do you have the .cab for it?

2. The QuickBar - I belive, it's only usefull for the LED function, but zlight uses less memory and works faster. You can even assign a hardware button to it. So...

3. Can you make a Light version of this ROM? And if you can, could you please remove the Microsoft bloatware too!

The applikation you are missing, probably is X-button. (first post) Its not part of WM6.5. Tune the system like you want.

Well - you dont have to install it! (i like the screen orientation switch, torch etc. in one - and yes one can assign a hard button to it.)

Well... It's not optional. It installs anyway. Of course I cant uninstall it but that's not a fresh ROM update anymore, is it?

On the home screen, the right soft key sais Comm. Mgr. but it launches the alarm clock. The clock on top of the screen I belive it would be better to change it with the battery metter. What's the point of two clocks and no battery metter?

Ok, on home screen the right soft button says:

-> pictures: all photos
-> music: library
-> phone: view
-> voicemail: voicemail
-> clock: yes - comm mgr. - and this opens clock and alarms -
hmm, i dit not changed anything here
(as far as i know :).
btw.: the wireless manager is: connmgr. - isnt it?
-> text: compose
-> e-mail: view
-> calendar: today
-> favorites: change

So, feel free to change clock to battery. I use bciBattery- read first post.

Thank you for your comments.

Big thanks!!

I't is very interesting ROM. And I think it's realy good that is the "pure" ROM with MS additional software. My personal petition is that at least one branch of ROM's will be "pure" in future.

So, I get one bug and I can not to determine how to beat it... I can't to sync with Outlook with ActiveSync (Win Mob Dev Center x64 on Vista x64). It stops at the begining of the first sync with message: "Exchange ActiveSync has encountered an error. If this condition persists, please contact your Exchange Administrator."
A try to sync device at work on Vista again and at home on Win7 RC - the results are the same.

Please, help....

In additional, I remove all shortcuts from Startup folder and make a SR, then try to sync - nasty reasult remain again.

Thank you. Well its not that pure - but i am also thinking of providing that. The only problem is RAM value.

Do you have x- button installed? I had also trouble with ActiveSync after installing x-button (tryed 3 diff. versions). I dont know why this happens . It also did not work right and after install no activ sync. was possible (found this out just today).

So try to deinstall x-button or & hard reset device.

Ghm... As I rightly see, 'x-button' is not preinstalled by default. And I do not install any applications, except of 4 apps installed at startup.
I just make a HR, and then connect a device to PC and try to setup and sync.

Same problem here, any advice plz???

After HR removing all aplications except satellite data update ,SR and connecting to Pc i managed to sync using activesync.
I think GprsWizard is the problem, u have to uninstall it before trying to sync with your desktop pc. Testing now and letting u know...
Thank u so much

Ok! Tested for 24h!
WM works perfect with a little tweaks (VK).
There are small problems, but they are mentioned above.
I also feel the need for a "Light" version of this ROM.
I think the best thing to do is to edit EXTROM and let us to decide what Eten app to install. (0 instead of 1)
;)

Very good job!

Thanks!

:ok:
