All,

Due to popular demand of this feature, I've gathered the information available on the DX900f forums and presented them in this post. Hopefully this will prevent unnecessary posts and provides for easy searching.

Files to use:
DX900_euus.exe (mirror) (mirror 2)
Eten/Acer ROM (WWE 551, WWE 470, WWE AU 462, GER 0393, NLD 369)

Instructions:
  • On your PC: Download the DX900 EUUS file
  • On your PC: Download the ROM which you like to install
  • DX900: Make sure your device battery is fully charged
  • DX900: Take out your memory card and sim card(s)
  • PC/DX900: Connect using ActiveSync in guest mode (delete your prior pairing)
  • PC/DX900: Follow installation procedure, but DO NOT click finish!
  • On your PC: Hit the start button from the task bar and chose run, type %temp% and hit ok
  • On your PC: If step 7 doesn't work, look for the directory: C:\documents and settings/users/xx(xx=your computer/ name)/local settings/temp
  • On your PC: Make sure you unhide any hidden files (map options)
  • On your PC: Copy temp.dat file and USBDLUpdate_Console.exe file to other location
  • On your PC: Now hit finish from step 3, but do not close the application
  • On your PC: Copy DX900_euus.exe, temp.dat and USBDLUpdate_Console.exe to the temp dir
  • On your PC: Run DX900_euus.exe and do the normal update as the program says (hit confirm on your device)
  • PC/DX900: After step 13, while running the update, do not touch the screen. It needs about 5minutes or more....
  • All done!!
Disclaimer:
I've gathered this information and updated it with best practices from posts following these instructions. I didn't invent this update, nor am I responsible for any failed updates of your devices. Updating is at your own risk and cross language updating can cause your device guarantee do expire/become invalid.

I hope this will help everyone.

The instruction is working if you update an ETen ROM going to Acer ROM. How about the other way around, from Acer to ETen?

It works the same way. You can use the same procedure to switch from one language to another or from one manufacturer model to the other. I have just gone back to Eten 551 firmware after testing the Acer one using this.
Cheers everybody,
Felix

Is it possible to upgrade to 551 from all ROM versions?

I got my DX900 beginning of April with NLD 040 0472 ROM on it.

Wow Buba, thats very interesting, you have a new NLD rom version. :-D Many people are waiting for a new version. What is the date of this new version?
Maybe you know but it is possible to download the firmware in a file and share it to other people with an old NLD 369h ROM. Do you want to invest the time and do this before you upgrade your phone to a newer WWE version?
I don't know how to do this but I have some tools for this and think it is not so complex. There are some specialists like IANL8888 or RUGAL who can help you. It would be perfect if you can download this version. See this link for details: Tools for cooking ROM

For your question: Yes it is possible with the method in this post to upgrade to all versions. The normal upgrade method is only possible with the same language. I did upgrade my firmware from NLD 361 version to NLD 369h and then to WWE 470 and then to WWE 551.

Hello,

I am using my DUTCH Acer DX900 +for 2 weeks now.

It has ROM : DX900 VER A147 NLD 040 0472 dated 2009/02/13 11:11

Unfortunately, it still has battery draining problem after using GPS function. Without, battery can be used for almost 2 days!

Yes, it's not difficult with this method. If you have the ROM can you leave a message in "The big ROM overview" thread where to download it?

Attached is a Word file I wrote about 12 months ago for the X500 forum. It gives a Road Map of sorts for beginners.

1) If you only extract the various files and elements in a ROM (temp.dat) to begin with - just examine all the bits and pieces that make up a ROM - and do NOT attempt to rebuild and flash yet, you are "on the road"

2) Rugal's Kitchen works perfectly for 1st pass extraction of main elements

3) If you want to examine the \SYS and \OEM elements, you need various tool sets such as imgfstodump.exe, packagetool etc. You have to Google for these, you will find them through xda-devs. But I agree with xda-dev's policy here - you must search and read for yourself, I won't spoon feed anyone too uninterested to do this.

Attached File(s)

Hello Bubba,

Sorry, bit I did say it's easy to go from a one language to another language. I already tought cooking a ROM would not be easy... I only downloaded the tools and they don't look difficult to me. If I look to the manual from ianl8888 that looks very difficult. So I think, you are not getting old at all but it is difficult to do. I realy want to try it myself but I'm trying now to improve the standby and operating time of the DX900. Now I can reach 66 hours with normal usage. :-D

THX,
Erik

Ian,

i'm a real noob with WM so all terms used in the guide don't mean anything to me. ill have a look when i have more time, so i can find out what your texts mean ;) The fixes in the later ROM (551) that i want to upgrade to are not that significant since i don't have these issues myself especially since the GPS is not fixed. i just want to upgrade to enable my device to be English instead of Dutch.

Ill keep you posted on it when i get to it.
